Pre-Conference Workshop for New Administrators

By Julie Abilheira

This year marks a significant milestone—SROA’s 40th Annual Meeting. That’s 40 years of serving radiation oncology administrators with an annual conference filled with speakers, workshops, events and networking opportunities with their specific needs in mind. Each year SROA is joined by new administrators looking to gain knowledge and make connections.

This year SROA is hosting its first pre-conference workshop specifically for new administrators. It’s a 4-hour workshop designed for administrators with less than 18 months’ experience. Participants will learn what to expect in the first few weeks and months on the job. They’ll get an overview of HR, administration, finance and the revenue cycle. We’ve identified four learning objectives:

  1. Define basic and common radiation oncology terminology
  2. Summarize the steps from initial patient diagnosis through to treatment plan
  3. Identify appropriate codes for each of the stages in the treatment plan
  4. Plan effectively for human resources needs and budgetary cycle

Upon completing the workshop, participants will receive an all-inclusive guide to help them be effective in their first 12–18 months on the job. They will also gain invaluable connections that will last their entire career.

There’s no single guide on how to be a strong, effective leader, but we can give our new administrators a toolkit and resources to help. We’re committed to helping new leaders in the industry understand where their current state is, what the future state could look like and what that in between means for them to be successful.

Join us on October 1 for this unique opportunity. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego, October 1–4, 2023.
